Canon Chris Bardby Susan Bowden Pickstock, a colleague
Many Quiet Garden Trust members will be aware of a BBC documentary currently being produced about the Trust for local radio around the country. I have had the privilege of being behind this project, along with a colleague the Revd Chris Bard, and we have thoroughly enjoyed travelling the length and breadth of Britain meeting around 25 Quiet Gardeners and their gardens. Some of you may also be aware that tragically at the beginning of September, as Chris and I arrived in Ireland to visit some Quiet Gardens there, Chris collapsed and died. This has been a terrible shock and a real loss to so many people with whom he was involved in all sorts of projects over the years. I am delighted, however, that what turned out to be his last project was also something very close to his heart: that of finding out about gardens which are being used as meeting places for those of faith and none in their life journey. He gained enormous pleasure at seeing the sheer range of gardens and meeting the people behind them. The documentary will still go ahead as fortunately we had collected most of the material we needed. It is now due to be broadcast Easter 2008 and more information on transmission dates will be sent on in due course. It will be a tribute to Chris, but also a tribute to all of you who have caught the Quiet Garden vision.
