Even when we are quiet with only the organisers here, we still hold the
Quiet Garden session and are refreshed. When we started we were told, ‘don’t
be discouraged by lack of numbers, just keep offering the space to be quiet’.
Reflecting on this image of Still Waters, the name of our Quiet
Garden, it is one of water welling up from the depths and offered generously
for refreshment. This welling up and refreshment is there, full and running
over, regardless of who is present to partake. Sometimes, drinking from what
is prepared and offered for others feels selfish. Or are we following the
example of Christ who went to hillside to pray and seek renewal? Unless we are
willing to accept our own need to be refreshed and renewed, it is difficult to
give to others without feeling strained and overstretched.
So we continue to share, offer what we can and just be there in the hope
that the unseen is as real as the visible. Certainly it teaches us
perseverance! Between sessions leaflets and other materials are available in
the Lady Chapel for any visitors to use for meditation. Maggie Kingston
